Morning Coffee
It’s an overcast Saturday morning. The French press works wonders for the sleepy traveller. The ocean just a bit away down the hill is quite serene. The traffic on Admiral’s Way remains quiet at this early hour.

Flew down to Seattle yesterday morning. We ate a great Thanksgiving meal at our friends’ house with their family. We took their 4 month old Gordon Setter, Ziggy, for a long walk before dinner. Great times.
The live in the Alki neighborhood and with its old brick moss-covered homes I am reminded of Britain. A wonderful view of Elliot Bay and the powerful smell of the ocean. Quite awesome.
Went over to Midnight Sun Brewery off of Arctic Blvd and got myself a growler of Obliteration IV. A mighty fine and tasty beverage. I encourage all of my friends to sample their many excellent brews.
Arrived in King Salmon last night (11/11/8). Checked in to the Antler’s Inn and had two beers at Eddie’ Fireplace Inn. Spoke with the owner, Mike, and several customers. Ate a not too bad pork chop dinner with good side of mashed potatoes.
Tried to start the AST truck this morning but the battery was dead. I got help jumping it from the Fish & Wildlife trooper and then followed him into Naknek. I’d never been here before so Trooper Fay was kind enough to show me where the courthouse is (it’s in the borough office building’s basement).
Unfortunately, the judge and defense counsel didn’t make it in from Dillingham this morning due to weather. So now I’m stuck waiting for them to (hopefully) arrive this afternoon so we can start tomorrow.
Waiting for the flight to King Salmon at 4:30. I start a trial tomorrow in Naknek. I’ve never been there before. I always like travelling around Alaska doing my job. Such a great place to practice law.
Saw the Roots in concert this weekend. Unfortunately they played in, quite possibly, the worst venue in Alaska – the Egan Center. A convention center with a high flat ceiling, zero sight-lines, and rather awful acoustics, the Roots would have been better served with an outdoor venue (not that particular night since it was 15 degrees outside) or a concert hall (like the one directly across the street from the Egan Center).
As usual with such off-kilter bands, the Roots kicked ass with their live show. A 15 minute jam song that included a really good rendition of the “Sweet Child ‘o Mine” intermixed with (if I remember correctly) a Chuck Berry song. Throw-in the only Sousaphone I have ever seen in a live concert, and, well, the show rocked.
